There was just a topic like this at GameFAQs.

Yebyosh posted this:

It is an 'idiom' in Chinese. Literally it means "a seamless heavenly garment".

In the olden times, a seamless garment is seen as the perfection of clothing since only someone possessing supernatural skills can make it ( ala a fairy ).

Hence the phrase came to be used to describe any manufactured object or art that is perfection

It's also one of Ryu's winning quotes on DoA3. He says it really quickly as it is a chant.

yeah that's what I'm talking about

Here's sth128's posts.

If you want an exact translation, the first (top) character says "sky" (or in this case, heavenly), the second says "clothing", the third says "none" (or "lacking"), the fourth says "seam".

Basically the phrase means "flawless" or "flawlessness". The phrase was derived from the ancient Chinese proverb of some godly creature who descended from the realm of heaven left a piece of clothing that is seamless... Or something like that.

I could be making the story up but eitherway the story is most likely hundreds if not thousands of years old and you probably don't care. So it doesn't really matter...

and

It doesn't mean "a seamless heavenly garment"... It says "heavenly garments have no seams"...

There is no enumerator dictating one piece of clothing... It describes all heavenly clothing.

Besides, the point is that it means "perfection". Which I stated already...
