|As far as I know, "Out of Range" means that your monitor can't support the current resolution.
Does your Monitor supports digital input with HDCP? If not, you cant use it with the PS3.
Another problem could be that the cable you're using cant decode the encrypted HDMI signal. And I think this is the main problem here.
There is an (expensive) solution for it. It's called "HD Fury". I use it for my PS3/Monitor (17' VGA) combo and it works great. It converts encrypted digital-input (HDMI) into analog-output (VGA).
Also, try to set the PS3 on the lowest resolution as possible using your (HD) TV and then reconnect it to the monitor.
