It looks like the ends can detach with chains. Hard to see though. And it seems like Ryu can escape throws after the first hit.

For those without IGN Insider, I uploaded the HD videos:

The Lunar is still the hottest weapon ever.

And to me it didn't look like they detached, but I should probably be sleeping right now.

There's a circular movement at the ends that they make during some combos. I love the Obliteration Techniques with it.

If you pause the video at certain parts of the combo you can kind of see the chain.

Erik from IGN said that the Lunar in the videos is only level 2 and there is a level 3 according to Microsoft and Team Ninja.

Bad news for you XNinjaRed. Not that it's what's int he video is final, but if you look in the videos, once the enemies are dead, Ryu can't attack them anymore.

Itagaki is still shooting for Spring. That means anytime in March, April, or May.

Whoa... Whatīs that??? The way it looks when ryu uses the lunar is totaly strange. The movements look much slower and give you the impression that the lunar has twice the weight.

The sound when ryu hits someone is also different this time and the seemingly chained ends doesnīt appeal to me at all Sad

Moreover not many new attacks for the lunar until now. When ryu was using the old one his movements looked much smoother and faster.

At least the enemies where more aggressive

Over all, not very pleased with the current state of the lunar

Many thanks for the uploads Keylay Thumb

Holy hell, the Lunar is just scary looking. Looks like something a medievil knight would use.

Sweet combos and I did notice the ends of the Lunar do detach and spin violently. You see it happen during the first 5 seconds of the first video. In this same video you can see Ryu detach just one end to spin it around at the 35 second mark. Looked like a modified XY string, Ryu did the slash and went straight for the poke but after the poke the end detached and it spun around. Perhaps to cause the ends to detach and spin you'll have to hold Y during certain strings. Or maybe that was just the new XYY string.

Cool videos though, thanks for uploading the HD videos Keylay. Very Happy

Combos are still great but I agree with Wanderfalke about Lunar's appearance and its sound. It was more impressive before.

Well, with an awakened face I can clearly see the detaching ends, yeah.

And regarding the Lunar's new speed I'd say I kind of like it. I mean, If the Dabilahro is out There's going to have to be another heavy weapon. It seems the Scythe has taken the Lunar's place and the Lunar that of the Dabilahro.

Y'know, they should totally call the Scythe Death/Life/Fiend/Flesh/Soul/Essence/Blood Harvester.

Awesomeness. Looks like they upped the weapons a great deal so that they all have even more use now. I didn't use the Lunar that much, but this made me chance my mind.
