It did have it's scary moments, but remember that you'll have to play it with the lights off, completely in the dark, with the sound turned up as high as possible, to get the maximum experience. And I'll guarantee that it will be scarier if you play it this way.

That's Doom for you, enter a room, shoot all the baddies, next room, same thing.

Yea, it's a shame iD didn't really do anything innovative to the gameplay department. They spent too much time on the graphics, which I'll admit are drop dead gorgeous, but I wished they would've been just as dedicated to the gameplay.

True that, but at least you're not totally alone in the game. But a few NPC marines would be nice.

Actually, iD originally had the flashlight attach to the guns but they scrapped the idea. They said that it made the game less scary and tense. I for one agree with them. If the flashlight was attached to a gun I wouldn't of been halfway as paranoid than when I had to switch between a gun and flashlight. It's a little thing that adds a lot to the experience. It keeps you on your toes the way it's designed now.

With all the strategy and upgrading in newer games, I guess I just need more nowadays. Mad

All of that is being answered in Quake 4. I guess iD felt that if you were to play with some NPC's in Doom it'd take away from the scare factor. I for one think it would've. I'd end up using the NPC's as bait or a shield. But I'm just twisted like that. Twisted Evil

"Hey you NPC! Walk into the line of fire!"
"Yes sir."

This reminds me of all my classic "Give me your ammo" moments in Halo:CE. Good times, good times.
